MISO Chip is a Polytechnique Montreal and CRCHUM spin-off founded in 2019 to commercialize a new tumor-on-chip platform for drug development and personalized cancer care.

Our Team

 

Etienne Laurent - CEO

Etienne is an Electrical/Biomedical engineer and he has a master in Technology & Innovation Management. Etienne dedicated most of his career in the commercialization of microfluidic systems in the field of oncology and predictive biomarkers.

He first started by making microfluidic devices for Thomas’ lab and quickly saw and believed in the potential value of this technology for drug development and precision medicine. He’s now driving the growth and success of the company.

Etienne admires great scientists. Through MISO Chip, he wants to help them turn discoveries into real impact on patients’ lives.

Jean-Luc Balzer - Senior VP Clinical Diagnostics

Jean-Luc is a senior executive with 30 years of experience in innovation management and business development within the medical device and IVD industry. He has previous experience as president and CEO of start-up companies from early stage to international sales. Jean-Luc keeps a successful track record in product development and marketing programs of innovative diagnostic systems within large multinational companies. He also worked for the technology transfer and support to entrepreneurship in life science within technology transfer organizations.

Thomas Gervais - CTO

Engineering Physics Professor at Polytechnique Montreal and Associate Researcher at the CRCHUM, Thomas is the inventor of MISO Chip’s microfluidic devices and of the PEL method. His expertise in bioengineering and metabolite transport are key to MISO Chip’s technologies.

Thomas did his PhD at MIT where he gained unrivaled knowledge and expertise in microfluidics. Thomas listens to biologists and physicians’ needs and can easily integrate them into innovative solutions.

Philip Wong - CMO

Philip is a Radio-Oncologist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Center in Toronto. His research interests are:

1) The development of prognostic and predictive markers of sensitivity to radiotherapy and;

2) New strategies in combining radiation with molecular agents to improve the efficacy of radiotherapy or to better protect normal tissue from treatment toxicities.

His research focuses primarily on sarcoma and palliative medicine clinic. Through MISO Chip, Philip wants to accelerate the time it takes to bring innovation from bench to bedside.
